I recently picked up a Nikon Z6, and took it for it’s first concert shoot – Valeria June http://valeriejune.com/ a really fun show by the way, and a rare solo performance. Great way to shoot with the 24-70mm lens (not a crappy plastic lens either). Anyway – I had the opportunity to use the silent mode. Which comes in handy at an interment concert.
The images are the jpegs straight out of the camera – no filters, no photoshop – just resizing and a watermark.
Good Morning all. Last week I went out to photograph Lake Street Dive (my second time, images coming soon) and has it’s been in the past I was thrilled to discover a musician I never heard of. This time it’s singer/songwriter Mikaela Davis. A total pleasure and surprise. These images were shot with my Fuji X-E1. I was shooting from the sound board, and used my 50-230mm lens. Using my usual technique of shooting with a shutter over 500 to help stop motion and auto iso to achieve maximum light. I also enjoy shooting in the 16×9 mode, giving a wonderful extra area to play with.
Took a little time out to just relax. This is one of the latest concert image. Cecilia Grace http://www.ceciliagracemusic.com/ – image taken at the Rams Head Live, Baltimore MD https://www.ramsheadlive.com/ holiday concert shot with my Nikon D800 from the photo pit (the smallest photo pit I’ve ever been in, and security gave me grief even with a photo pass). I used a 200mm lens iso 2400.
It seems that the winter months are my chance to photograph concerts and musicians. If you read my last post I photographed a band I didn’t even know existed. The image on this post is from the band that I originally planned on photographing. Sonic Spell https://www.facebook.com/SonicSpell/ at the same venue Fish Head Cantina http://www.fishheadcantina.com/ in Maryland. Another low light condition concert with a fairly long lens. For me shutter speed is the key function.
I was out on Friday night to photography a band, which I did (images were taken at Fish Head Cantina, Maryland. http://www.fishheadcantina.com/ In the process I discovered the opening act The Dead Pens https://thedeadpens.com/?fbclid=IwAR2CEVatmzWUHNlJtZB-O0vYGx1Wp-SmjntoJ7e8_MOUISXx9HDKYuJL9zE
This is an image from that show – lead singer/songwriter guitarist and keyboard player Danah Koch. I’ve added the band website – I hope you’ll check them out.
Shot with my Nikon D800, I had to deal with some low light issues. My main plan while shooting concerts like this is to use shutter priority to freeze action and then use the auto ISO function to help with the low light.
This is a CD cover I had the pleasure of doing some technical support for. My part was creating extra pixels to the original image. (The images are not mine but, those of Chanté C. Ramsey of VySyn Photography http://vysynphotos.com/ . This is the newest release from singer/songwriter Lili Roquelin http://www.liliroquelin.com/ – based in New York. I have had the pleasure of working with her many times in the past. Please give her music a listen – I’m sure you will enjoy her wonderful music and poetic lyrics. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JB629G1/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1539365414&sr=8-6&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=lili+roquelin&dpPl=1&dpID=410PBTiqTUL&ref=plSrch
A while back I shot one of Lili Roquelin’s performances at “The Bitter End” in Manhatten. Friend – singer – songrwriter, chose this image for her new single release “Bliss Of My Soul”.
And to view images from the show go to her flickr https://www.flickr.com/photos/liliroquelin/sets/72157644541684321/
