About once a month I go to a small gathering of artists, models and photographers at Creative Labs in Baltimore. http://www.createbmore.com/ This is Ana, an awesome model and actress, she is wearing Pakistani traditional clothing. This was a low light situation – shot with my Nikon D800 and 1 Nikon Speedlight with a soft box and a 100mm lens. Post was in Lightroom and Photoshop.
A few weeks ago I was working on a project. A fashion film project, called Lotus. In between shots with video, I also shot stills. It was one of those locations you never have access to – The Catacombs under Lexington Market, Baltimore Maryland http://lexingtonmarket.com/ http://lexingtonmarket.com/event/baltimore-heritage-tour-of-lexington-market-catacombs-100-year-vendors-and-history-at-lexington-market/
Costuming was done by Stacy Stube https://www.elsafitzgerald.com/ Model in this image is Megan and Hair and Makeup (H/MUA) was Samantha Trionfo http://samanthatrionfo.wixsite.com/makeup-artist
This is an example of Rembrandt Lighting. Most of Rembrandt’s portraits utilize this style. https://www.wikiart.org/en/rembrandt It is a simple idea, so simple that Rembrandt could make it happen with only the light of nature, the sun, candles and fire. The effect is to create a small triangle of light under one eye on one check that is mostly in shadow. A really nice dramatic effect and draws the eye. Model Taylor is helping create this style by slightly tilting her head. The jewelry she is wearing is by https://hotrodsenchantedcrafts.com/
I’m going to say it – “I’m a photographer and I love high contrast.” This image is from a year ago; it was my first shoot with Jehanne de Champvallon, a French model, photographer and writer https://500px.com/jehannedechampvallon https://www.instagram.com/jehannedechampvallon/?hl=en https://www.amazon.com/Jehanne-de-Champvallon/e/B004NAGG0G We wanted to shoot something haunting. With some luck we got some very interesting clouds on a warm summer Sunday. We met at the top of a parking garage in Annapolis, MD. I used my Nikon D800 with a Nikon 300mm lens from a very low angle. Tip: when shooting with black and white in mind never use the black and white setting on the camera, you lose vital information to the image. The high extra contrast and black and white was added in Adobe Lightroom.
In the spring of 2018 – I got the chance to photograph Lauren Hill (a contestant for Miss Maryland https://missmarylandusa.com/ ) for Gladys Magazine http://www.gladysmagazine.com/. It was a cold rainy day in Fells Point, Maryland, perfect for setting up this image with a nice hot cup of tea and a pastry. We spent a few hours with H/MUA Katie Jacoby https://katie-jacoby-hair–makeup-artistry-12.webself.net/ in the studio before heading out. It was a fun shoot with fun people. Images shot with my Nikon D800 a Nikon 35mm lens and SB-800 speedlight.
